Everybody wants to exercise and many people always make new year’s resolutions that they will go to the gym.
Sadly only 8% of those resolutions are kept.
Personally, I don’t like the gym. I tried it several times and it was fun to exercise with barbells. I will do it again, but in my own gym.
It was always so time-consuming, packing my bag, going to the gym, change, exercise, shower, change, get home. It was still taking quite long although the gym was in walking distance.
In the gym, it was crowded and the air quality was really terrible. Maybe I went to a bad gym, but I like to exercise outside. In the fresh air, with the sun shining on me. It makes me feel so much better.
Going to the gym isn’t the way you should start your health journey. Your health doesn’t start in the gym. I really think this is true. Every time someone tells me they want to join a gym I’ll ask them “Why?”
“It will make me go outside and start exercising.” Good point, but why don’t you exercise at home or in a park for at least a week, so you get into the habit, before actually paying for it? No answer.
Exercising at home is the best thing you can do to start. You don’t need any equipment, you don’t need much knowledge and you don’t need much space.
There are so many exercises you can do and there is an entire industry behind body weight exercises.
Go online and search for body weight exercises. Pick three, i.e push-ups, squats and planks and do them regularly for two weeks. Every second day. That will be enough. You won’t become Arnold Schwarzenegger through this routine, but you will start to get healthier, without spending any money, without all the hassle of changing and going to the gym.
Make it as easy as possible to start the exercise habit. Do 2 pushups a day for a week. Then do four. Then do 8 and see how long you can continue this.
According to studies, even one minute of exercise will make you healthier in the long run.
The only limit you have is your own imagination.
Don’t find excuses for exercise at home, but instead, see all the good things it can bring you. Health, better looks, money saved and a happier life.
If you don’t want to exercise, go back to the previous idea and take the stairs all the time.
Steps to take:
- Ask yourself why you can’t exercise at home.
- Do a one-minute workout right now. 5 push ups, 5 squats, 20 seconds plank.
- Find a time during your day where you can include a 5-20 minute bodyweight workout. I’ll prefer to do mine first thing in the morning.
